Ryde Community Plan

The SRB VI fund is intended to enhance the opportunities for regeneration by working in partnership with the Ryde Community Forum and the strategic priorities identified as part of the original funding bid.

The Ryde Community Plan is a unification of a series of community projects identified by the community through public consultation and drawn together in a cohesive strategy. The plan is community led and has community support, looking at all aspirations of Ryde from the short-term right through to long-term.

The project manager will ensure that the Ryde Community Plan works strategically within the regeneration framework and will seek and access all other funding schemes available to enhance the SRB VI work.

Ryde Esplanade Study

As part of the Island Regeneration Strategy, a need for a rolling programme of coastal regeneration initiatives was identified. With Ryde as the ‘gateway’ to the East Wight corridor it was deemed important to get the esplanade working as a welcoming and efficient entry point.

This project was launched to discover the feasibility of developing the esplanade as an attractive all-year destination that offers a range of quality attractions to meet the needs of both residents and tourists.

In doing this the following aims will be achieved:

  • Identify the key issues to be tackled to improve the appearance and function of the esplanade
  • Work with existing businesses and community interests active on or around the esplanade to develop joint solutions to these issues
  • Identify opportunities for new commercial investment on the seafront

Ryde Festival and Community Arts

This project has two broad aims:

  • To employ a Ryde Neighbourhood Arts Worker to deliver arts development in Ryde and to facilitate the further development of the Ryde Art Works Partnership.

This will create a unique arts festival in Ryde that stands alone as an event that can be marketed across the Island, nationally and internationally.

  • To facilitate the on-going employment of the Ryde Festival Co-ordinator and to enable the further development of the Ryde Arts Festival

This post will establish links and provide a point of contact for all those wishing to initiate arts development across Ryde and provide support for securing funding for community arts development.

Ryde Health Village Feasibility Study

The Ryde Regeneration Partnership had a concern about the limited range of health and social care provided in Ryde. Therefore they proposed the idea that a health village – supporting a range of health, social care and sports/leisure activities with a limited amount of housing and/or retail be considered.

The aim of this project was to launch a feasibility study to determine whether such a facility was needed in Ryde and to pull together the full list of costings for such a scheme.

Ryde Interchange Feasibility Study

A design feasibility study was undertaken to consider development of the area at the landside end of Ryde Pier. In order to do this properly, funding was sought to employ a specialist design consultant through an agency to carry out the work. They would then consider and promote the most appropriate redevelopment scheme for this interchange area.

This scheme will help co-ordinate and integrate all the various modes of transport that currently use the area. Over two million people use this area annually and this scheme will develop a programme to promote the best way to meet these traveller’s needs.
