RDP
The Rural Development Programme (RDP) has been
running since the 1980’s, providing grant
funding for projects that are specifically targeted
to rural areas.
This project placed £1,500,000 in the
RDP as a top-up, enabling more programmes to
be developed that target the rural areas on the
Isle of Wight that have the greatest need.

was done by effectively building on the existing
marketing plan including:
• Marketing of SRB programme
• Marketing of SRB funded projects
• Building networks of support to help project leaders promote their projects
themselves
• Raise awareness of previous SRB funding won for the Island
• Raise awareness of previous achievements and successes
• Maximise the standing and profile of the Isle of Wight Economic Partnership
(as is now)

Ventnor
Coastal Field Study Centre
This proposal was put together to bring Salisbury
Gardens back into use. The prominent Victorian
building is situated in one of the UK’s
most outstanding coastal locations and this project
was to provide a static and interactive display,
describing the unique features of interest of
the Island coastline and how they can be reached
by foot, cycling, car or public transport.

Wightplay
There were three main components to this project
which built upon the TEC-supported programme
for ‘out of school childcare’:
• Research and Strategic Development
• Development of an Information Service
• Delivery of new childcare places
The project provides essential information,
advice and support on childcare issues and ensures
the whole community feels the benefit, especially
those in rural areas who have found this type
of service difficult to get to.

Youth
into Work
The primary activity and purpose
of this project was to provide a training programme
for 16 – 24 year olds who are long-term
unemployed and who have literacy and numeracy
difficulties along with social or emotional problems
which have created barriers to accessing employment.
The aim is to empower the individual to own
and take responsibility of their own development
to enable them to move from where they currently
are, on to a position of full employment.
